Bexar County Invests in Green Home Initiatives to Promote Sustainability
Bexar County Commissioners Court has approved a $75,000 contract with Build San Antonio Green (BSAG) to implement energy and emissions reduction policies aimed at enhancing sustainability in the region. The initiative, set to run from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025, will focus on air quality improvements, water conservation, energy efficiency, and the promotion of renewable energy through the development and administration of a green building program. BSAG, in collaboration with Solar San Antonio, plans to certify approximately 1,000 projects, including new constructions and retrofitted single-family homes, and conduct four educational workshops during this period.
BSAG, a nonprofit organization established by Bexar County, CPS Energy, and the City of San Antonio, has a track record of promoting conservation and efficiency. To date, the program has certified over 29,000 green projects, including single-family homes, multifamily and mixed-use projects, and commercial buildings. These efforts have prevented approximately 525 million pounds of CO2 emissions, equivalent to removing over 43,000 cars from the road for a year. The new agreement underscores Bexar County’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
