Emerging Developers Conference advances sustainable real estate
The Emerging Developers Conference in Chicago has continued to grow over the past three years, bringing together public- and private-sector leaders to address the unique challenges facing new and smaller real estate developers. This year’s event featured discussions on raising capital in an uncertain market, the role of sustainability in attracting investment and how cities like Chicago and Milwaukee are rethinking zoning, permitting and financing to expand affordable housing. The conference maintained its entrepreneurial focus while offering high-level insights from industry veterans, policymakers and development experts.
USGBC’s participation centered on helping attendees make sense of changing federal policy, especially as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” rolls back many green-building incentives introduced under the Inflation Reduction Act. Presenters also highlighted expansions to programs like LIHTC and Opportunity Zone credits. The day included a keynote on values-driven development and breakout sessions on topics ranging from market analysis to net-zero building. USGBC views this event as aligned with its mission to grow the green building community and advance sustainable, equitable development and looks forward to supporting the conference as it continues to evolve.
