EPA’s Indoor airPLUS Program Enhances Indoor Air Quality in New Homes

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Indoor airPLUS program is a voluntary partnership initiative aimed at improving indoor air quality in new residential constructions. By adhering to specific construction practices and product specifications, builders can minimize occupants’ exposure to airborne pollutants such as mold, radon, and volatile organic compounds. Homes certified under this program offer enhanced comfort, safety, and health benefits, particularly for individuals with chronic respiratory conditions.

Builders participating in the Indoor airPLUS program receive public recognition and access to technical resources, marketing materials, and tools at no cost. To qualify, homes must first meet ENERGY STAR Certified Home requirements and then comply with additional Indoor airPLUS construction specifications. Third-party verification ensures that these standards are met, providing homebuyers with confidence in the quality and safety of their new homes.
