GenPro Energy Develops a 1.3 MW Solar Installation
GenPro Energy Development has begun construction on the Camden Heights Solar Project in Rapid City, South Dakota—a 999kW-ac solar installation that will power seven affordable housing buildings with 252 apartment units. As part of Elmington Capital Group’s $78 million Camden Heights development, the project aims to offset about 90% of the community’s energy needs, making it one of the region’s largest renewable energy initiatives serving low-income families and seniors. The project highlights a growing effort to pair affordable housing with clean energy infrastructure, reducing utility costs and promoting sustainability in underserved areas.
GenPro, selected to design and implement the solar system, is partnering with Elmington Capital Group, Black Hills Energy, the City of Rapid City, the South Dakota Housing Authority and the Black Hills Area Community Foundation to bring this project to life. According to GenPro Managing Partner Molly Brown, the initiative not only provides economic and environmental benefits but also serves as a replicable model for other cities in South Dakota seeking to combine affordability with sustainability. Together, the project partners are redefining what community-driven development can look like—where renewable energy, affordability and resilience intersect.
