Green Project of the Week: Providence Net Zero House

Designed by ZeroEnergy Design, the Providence Net Zero House is a 6,692 square foot all-electric, single-family residence on Providence’s East Side in Rhode Island. The project was built to demonstrate that net positive energy performance and New England residential character can coexist.

A continuous four-inch layer of cork insulation wraps the exterior, a rapidly renewable material chosen for both its thermal performance and its environmental credentials. Triple-glazed tilt-turn windows and an airtight construction achieve an air leakage rate of 0.25 ACH50, placing the house within Passive House-aligned performance levels. All heating, cooling and domestic hot water is provided by electric heat pumps; the induction range and electric fireplaces extend the fossil fuel-free commitment throughout the home.
