Introducing the 2025 Groundbreaker Awards Nominees

Green Building United has announced the nominees for its 2025 Groundbreaker Awards, celebrating projects and people in the region that exemplify sustainable design, equity and climate resilience. The nominated works are divided into several categories, including Sustainable New Development or Major Renovation (subdivided into New Construction, Renovation/Expansion and Residential/Mixed-Use), Equity & Community Leadership, Sustainable Building Operations and Sustainable Design & Planning.

Highlighted nominees include initiatives such as Rebuild Philadelphia, which invests in parks, libraries and rec centers with an emphasis on environmental justice; the Bennett Street Redevelopment in Wilmington, offering all-electric, low -operating-cost homes; the Vagelos Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania with its 63% energy use savings; and the Passive House at Hamilton at Eagleview, pursuing Phius+ZERO standards. The awards ceremony will be held this fall at 3.0 University Place in Philadelphia, with tickets already on sale and sponsors still welcome.
