LEED v5 and the next big shift in indoor air management

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is placing great emphasis on indoor air management in its updated LEED v5. Released earlier this year, the fifth iteration of the LEED rating system places even more weight on green building. As a third-party certification, LEED status is granted to projects that exceed the minimum code and demonstrate energy efficiency.

While indoor air management has historically been a factor in previous LEED certifications, it is even more important than before. LEED v5 measures air quality in the home by inspecting ventilation particulate matter, carbon dioxide and VOCs in airflow. Points are now given to projects that include air sensors to make monitoring air quality easier.
