Navigating the 2025 NGBS

National Green Building Standard (NGBS) released their most comprehensive update since their debut in 2008, the ICC700-2025. It strengthens energy performance pathways, clarifies water efficiency strategies and adds new compliance options that provide more flexibility for multifamily and mixed-use projects. Home Innovation Labs is launching two new AIA-approved education opportunities to help project teams understand what is new.

The first course is “2025 NGBS Overview for Project Teams and Design Professionals.” This is a walkthrough of all the important changes in the certification. The goal of this session is for attendees to understand what the new mandatory practices are and how to implement them sooner in the design process. The second course is “Using the 2025 NGBS for Property Certification.” This course is targeted to those working with existing multifamily, mixed-use and student housing communities. The focus is on property-wide assessment rather than a building-by-building approach.

“Many firms want a clear understanding of what the 2025 standard introduces so they can make informed decisions about whether to pursue certification under the 2020 or 2025 NGBS for future projects,” said Michelle Foster NGBS  Vice President, Sustainability. “These courses give teams a practical way to understand what has changed and how to align design, documentation, and consultant coordination early in the process.”
