NGBS reaches 750,000th project certification
The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) recently certified their 750,000th green project. This milestone comes as 2025 marked the second consecutive year with over 100,000 homes certified. Launched in 2009 and administered by Home Innovation Research Lab the certification is constantly accelerating. In 2025, the states with most single and multi-family certifications were Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. Home Innovations lab noted that certification activity typically aligned with areas with high homebuilding activity.
“Texas once again tops multifamily certification, and Florida took the top spot for most single-family certifications for the second consecutive year,” wrote Cal Trepagnier NAHB Program Manager, Sustainability & Green Building. “Indiana is a new addition to the multifamily certification Top 10, and Georgia, Ohio, Delaware and Illinois are new additions to the single-family list.”
