South Carolina energy efficient programs could qualify for new grants
For South Carolina nonprofits that equip income challenged households for energy efficient and weatherization upgrades Duke Energy now offers grants up to $20,000.
To qualify, funding must be used for health and safety repairs directly related to enabling weatherization and energy efficiency readiness and improvements including but not limited to:
- Roof repair or replacement
- Electrical repairs or upgrades
- Plumbing repairs to address leaks, clogs or non-functioning systems
- Structural stabilization
- Mold remediation and radon mitigation
- Pest control and exclusion
Cosmetic improvements, landscaping and non-essential renovations are not eligible for the grant.
“Recent legislative efforts have made it clear that South Carolina’s leaders realize the importance of energy efficiency and weatherization programs in moderating energy bills and the growing demand on the electric grid. As Duke Energy looks to new ways of expanding these offerings, we also understand the need to help address the underlying safety issues in homes that are barriers to these efforts.” said Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’sĀ South Carolina president.
The application window is currently open and closes Oct. 30. The grants for South Carolina will be announced the week of December 15.
