USGBC advocacy and policy highlights: July 2025
Federal and state policymakers are showing growing support for green building initiatives, with bipartisan support from Congress for ENERGY STAR funding and ongoing efforts by HUD and USDA to update energy codes for new housing. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is urging HUD to maintain mortgage insurance incentives for energy-efficient housing and pushing back against recent rollbacks to clean energy tax incentives under new federal legislation. At the state level, USGBC continues to engage with local agencies, such as Oklahoma’s Housing Finance Agency, to ensure sustainable building certifications like LEED are prioritized in affordable housing programs.
