Energy Star receives dedicated funding for the first time

The Energy Star program passed both the house, senate and executive branch to receive funding throughout 2026. This is the program’s first-ever appropriations line, at $33 million to the Environmental Protection Agency dedicated to the program.  This is a win for Energy Star despite it being significantly down from the $44.2 allocated in 2015.

With previous threats of privatizing or completely cutting the program throughout the summer and fall of 2025, the program’s over 1000 supporters are relieved. “What it shows very clearly is that Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, strongly support Energy Star and want to see it continued,” said Ben Evans, federal legislative director for the U.S. Green Building Council.
