Rebuilding begins for 60-home community after Maui wildfires

Nearly three years after the Maui wildfires destroyed both residential and commercial buildings in Lahaina, rebuilding is set to begin at Lahaina Residential, a 60-home residential community. Project leaders said the rebuilt community will include several sustainability upgrades, including fire-resistant siding and roofing, defensible space, wildfire-resilient landscaping, water-saving native plants, low-flow plumbing fixtures and infrastructure for future electric vehicle chargers.

The project will restore six two-story residential buildings, restoring 60 homes for Maui residents. Construction is expected to begin on Oct. 19 and will take approximately 18 months to complete.

Homeowners, project partners and Maui County officials gathered on Oct. 2 for a blessing and groundbreaking ceremony.
