RESNET releases annual report

The Residential Energy Service Network (RESNET), the national standards-making body for building energy efficiency rating and certification systems in the U.S, released its annual report. RESNET reported rating over 420,000 homes, with an estimated 34% of all new one-and two-family homes were HERS®-rated in 2025. The average HERS index was a 53 , down 2 points from the year before. RESNET estimates nearly $452.9 million in energy cost saving and 1.4 million tons of carbon emissions avoided.

The program also reported an uptick in homes evaluated for HERSH2O®, with nearly eight thousand homes rated, a 26% increase from the year before. The program estimates 444 million in water saving and 2.3 million in water cost saving.

RESNET ended the year with Executive Director Steve Baden retiring after more than 30 years in the role. Shelby Gatlin was selected as the new Executive Director.
