USGBC Announces First Projects Certified Under LEED v5
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), celebrated the first projects to achieve certification under LEED v5. USGBC is the global developer of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building program. It is a groundbreaking certification and regarded as one of the most prestigious certifications around the world.
Out of sixty projects accepted into the program, only a third of all projects are successfully completing their certification to date. The projects encompass a variety of uses from a sports and entertainment venue to a warehouse and distribution center.
The first project to achieve certification under LEED v5 is Portobello Shop Jardim Social in Curitiba, Brazil. It received the Platinum certification in October 2024. Other projects in the inaugural class of LEED v5 include Ascent MKE in Milwaukee, the Citigroup Center in Miami and Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
“The first LEED v5 projects are trailblazers, not only demonstrating green building leadership, but also playing a critical role in shaping today’s definition of a high-performing, resilient, healthy and sustainable building,” said Sarah Zaleski, chief products officer, USGBC. “By serving as early users of the rating system, these building projects have helped refine and strengthen LEED v5 and exemplify how it can be adapted to every building type, sector and market around the world.”
