First home receives certificate of occupancy in the Palisades

The first home rebuilt after the devastating 2025 Palisades fire has officially received its certificate of occupancy, marking a key milestone in the neighborhood’s recovery. The newly constructed four-bedroom, nearly 4,000 sq ft, fire-resistant house at 915 N. Kagawa Street was built by Thomas James Homes and cleared by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS), meaning it meets inspection standards and is ready for habitation.

City officials say this rebuild symbolizes hope for the many families displaced by the fire and brands the start of what they describe as the fastest home-rebuild effort in recent California history. Over 340 rebuilding projects have begun in the Palisades so far, and hundreds more permit applications are still under review.
