Green Project of the Week: Retro Rambler

The Retro Rambler is a high-performance, all-electric reinvention of a 1950s home in Kensington, Md. Symbi Homes renovated the 3,000-square-foot residence to be fully electric, powered by high-efficiency heat pumps, solar-ready infrastructure and an EV charger. With insulation and air sealing that exceed code requirements, expansive ENERGY STAR windows, and an EV charger, the Retro Rambler is built for comfort, efficiency and resilience.

The original single-story structure was built in 1952. Symbi Homes added a new three-level rear addition that includes a gourmet kitchen, a spacious second-floor primary suite, a private in-law suite and a garden gym or office in the converted shed.
