Developer aims to add passive homes to Bloomington-Normal
In an attempt to address the housing shortage in Bloomington-Normal, Ill., Rebecca Johnson, CEO and founder of COII, is planning to develop cost-effective, passive homes focused on sustainability and wellness.
“The concept is a modern, sustainable living development,” said Johnson. “So that means that this concept is going to be all native landscaping, starting from the ground up, and then our homes are high-performance, passive house-designed homes.”
The passive homes will utilize natural resources in home construction and placement, with plans for the homes to be built facing north and south so windows either face or avoid the sun intentionally.
Johnson said she estimates a 50% reduction in energy bills for those living in a home built by COII.
