Green Project of the Week: Sustainable Off-Grid Home

This off-grid passive house, built by Old Town Design Build, sits in the Colorado Front Range, harmonizing views and sustainability. The home, designed by Hyperlocal Workshop as a Passive House Plus, harnesses the power of timber passive solar windows and snow-shedding solar electric panels.

The 2,200-square-foot, off-grid project is leading the way in sustainable construction by being among the first in the U.S. to incorporate the EcoCocon straw panel system.

An outdoor ramp links two inviting patios, offering views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The interior design is meant to be simple yet stylish, featuring a cork ceiling, clay plaster walls and polished concrete floors.
