Energy efficiency shifts home design in Texas

Texas homebuilders are leaning into sustainability, including both climate-conscious and energy-efficient features. According to a report by the National Association of Builders (NAHB), nearly 80% of homebuyers consider sustainability when purchasing, prompting builders to consider sustainability as a necessary feature in designs.

According to NAHB, energy-efficient homes often sell faster and at a higher price point, with an additional value of around $5,000 more than a standard home. To get a leg up in the current fluctuating housing market, Texas homebuilders are utilizing this statistic to the best of their ability, building with energy efficiency and other sustainable practices in mind.

“New buyers do expect it,” said Sam Luna, director of product sales at BKV Energy. “They are pushing for it … and these additional features may not always add revenue dollars, but buyers are asking for it and builders are accommodating it.”
