LA rebuild adopts IBHS Wildfire Preparedness standard
We’re about a year and a half out from the Los Angeles wildfires. Homeowners, builders and the community ask: What is the current state of rebuilding?
The Resiliency Company, a nonprofit investing in resilient homes and infrastructure, reported that builders and architects behind 1 in 3 homes being rebuilt across the impacted region will be stronger than before. The company announced that many are using the IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home standard as the baseline.
The IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home standard is backed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety and comes in two levels for single properties: Wildfire Prepared Home and Wildfire Prepared Home Plus.
“We started the Resilient Delta Fund because rebuilding to code isn’t enough anymore as fire risk has severely heightened,” said Abby Ross, CEO at The Resiliency Company. “A year in, it’s clear that the ecosystem of builders, lenders, and community groups are prioritizing resilience as a core tenet of rebuilding.”
