Neuroarchitecture set to inspire 2027 home design

As we pass the mid-point of 2026, it is time to turn our eyes to 2027’s interior design trends. One thing is clear: Homeowners will still prioritize sustainable interior design. According to Judy Cossette, a certified sustainable interior designer in Wilmington, North Carolina, neuroarchitecture, lighting that removes microplastics from the air and finishes with an iridescent, almost holographic quality are quietly making themselves known in upcoming interior design trends.

Neuroarchitecture is an extension of biophilic design, but it goes further, looking at things like ceiling height, sound absorption and sight lines to nature as tools that shape how a person’s body responds to a space. This type of wellness-inspired design is a recurring trend in 2026, but it will remain just as prominent next year.

Circadian lighting adjusts color temperature throughout the day, cooler and brighter in the morning, warm and dim in the evening, so the home works with the body’s natural rhythm instead of against it. This one has been building for a while, but it is about to move from a nice addition into something clients expect as a baseline, especially in windowless bathrooms, basements and home offices.
