Vermont leads nation in energy-efficient new home program
Vermont is leading the nation with its new installation program of super energy-efficient and affordable homes. Vermont’s advanced efficiency homes come with an abundance of efficiency improvements over conventional options such as more insulation in the floors, the walls, and the ceiling. Additional features include ultra-efficient windows and doors, programmable thermostats, tighter air seals and ductwork under the floors in the structure’s belly, as well as Energy Star appliances, a heat-pump water heater and a solar-ready roof.
“Vermont’s advanced homes ?are setting a benchmark for the rest of the country,” said Mark Kresowik, senior policy director at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. “These families are facing some of the most acute stresses and pain of making decisions about whether to pay their energy bill or their home loan or put food on the table or buy medicine. Their energy bills shouldn’t put them back in the streets or back into a rental.”
