95% of New York City buildings meet emissions limits
New York City Mayor Mamdani announced that 85% of the City’s large buildings meet emissions limits.
Under the Mayor’s tenure, he relaunched the NYC Accelerator, a program designed for building owners and property managers to plan, finance and complete decarbonization projects.
Sustainability is also key in projects that New York City owns and finances, including building projects to Passive House standards, the installation of heat pumps across units and plans to install 30 megawatts of solar energy on top of units.
“Sustainability is a key component in our work to preserve our aging housing stock and our recent 2026 Sustainability Agenda is the roadmap guiding that work,” said New York City Housing Authority Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt.
