Insurers may return to California for certified homes only

After stepping back from providing home coverage in California in 2023, insurance company State Farm may pick up coverage again in the state.

When the company first stopped taking applications, it cited the risk of catastrophes like wildfires and the rising cost to rebuild.

However, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced that both State Farm General and Allstate look to reopen for California homeowners.

This, however, only applies to homes that are certified by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) Wildfire Prepared program.

This is still subject to review by the Department of Insurance.
