Bend introduces new building requirement for wildfire resilience

The City of Bend, Ore., adopted a new building requirement, Section R327 of the Oregon Residential Specialty Code. This new code establishes wildfire-resilient construction practices for new single-family detached homes.

These practices include the use of non combustible, ignition-resistant material and specifications on roofing materials. These requirements are only for single-family homes and accessory dwelling units, structurally dependant townhomes shall be provided with a minimum Class C roof covering.

While the code amendment was originally temporary rule, this new building requirement will take effect May 15.
