One-third of all homes in the U.S. could run on solar
According to new research from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie, there is enough solar capacity in the U.S. to power an estimated 50 million homes, or one-third of the market.
SEIA reported that the solar industry saw a 45% year-over-year increase in electricity generation.
Despite headwinds in the residential market, such as expiring tax credits, the association expects the solar market to double over the next five years. This comes as demand for solar in homes has only grown as other energy costs rise.
“Solar and storage have grown to a scale most Americans have yet to fully realize and we simply can’t meet America’s growing energy needs without these technologies,” said SEIA CEO Tim Pawlenty.
