USGBC advocacy mid-summer highlights
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) engages in advocacy across the state, local and federal levels for green building initiatives and decarbonization policies.
In June, the council focused on statewide legislation, particularly in New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Delaware.
In New Hampshire, USGBC supported a bill (HB1180-FN) that planned to update state building codes from the IECC 2018 version to the 2024 version, modernizing energy efficiency and overall savings. However, the bill failed to move past the committee level.
In Rhode Island, an energy reporting program (SB 2260/ HB7183) supported by USGBC was vetoed by the governor. The program would have required residential buildings over 25,000 square feet to annually report energy usage and GHG emissions data.
In Delaware, there was no consideration for green building policies.
