What changes are coming to the ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301 Standard

The ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301 Standard acts as the guiding principle of the HERS® Index, a measure of energy performance. Like many energy certifications, standards and codes, it will undergo a review before finalization of the 2028 version.

However, the updates to the 301 Standard do not make it more rigorous. Instead, the revisions plan to make the standard and its methods more consistent for Raters.

As the 2028 version continues to develop, RESNET® invites Raters, Providers, software developers, builders and other professionals to provide feedback on these potential changes.

The agency is also holding a public comment period to understand how day-to-day work would be impacted.

While this is for the 2028 standard, enforcement is not expected until 2029.
